MoSi at the Long Night of Sciences 2026

At this year’s “Long Night of Sciences”, the MoSi group, in collaboration with Prof. Christian Tominski (Human‑Computer Interaction), organized a booth on the automatic learning of simulation models.

Visitors were invited to experience the topic hands‑on and playfully through an interactive web application displayed on a large touch screen and at two PC workstations.

At the example of the method "Sparse Identification of Non‑linear Dynamics" (SINDy) and its extension to modeling with reactions (see  Hoffmann et al. or  Burrage et al.), participants could themselves play algorithm to explain given observations in the form of time‑series data. For this purpose the tool "Reaction Quest" was developed, which you can also try out at the following link: https://reaction-quest.mosi.informatik.uni-rostock.de/

A big thank‑you to Fiete Haack, Anja Wolpers, Jan Niklas Martin, Philipp Henning, Glenn Skrzypczak, and Justin Kreikemeyer for organizing and staffing the booth. We are especially grateful to our system administrator Nadja Schlungbaum for the technical preparation!
