Recognition for Outstanding Academic Book

Choice (https://www.choice360.org/choice-pick/choice-outstanding-academic-titles/) has published its list of Outstanding Academic Titles. According to Choice, “this prestigious list reflects the best in scholarly titles, both print and digital, reviewed by Choice during the previous year and brings with it the extraordinary recognition of the academic library community.”

This year, the list of outstanding academic titles includes the book “Interactive Visual Data Analysis” (https://ivda-book.de) co-authored by Prof. Christian Tominski and Prof. Heidrun Schumann from the Institute of Visual & Analytic Computing. The book has been selected by Choice editors based on several criteria, including overall excellence in presentation and scholarship, importance relative to other literature in the field, originality or uniqueness of treatment, and value to students.

Several courses in visual computing and computer science at the Faculty of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at the University of Rostock make use of the book. It provides a systematic and comprehensive overview of interactive visual data analysis. The reader is made familiar with visualization techniques for various types of data and fundamental concepts for interacting with these data and their visualizations. The book further covers relevant automatic analytical computations to support the visual data analysis of large and complex data, and it sheds light on advanced concepts for visual analytics.
